Stephen, thank you sooooo much that I could spend these 5 weeks with you!! I wanted to expirience the cold in the winter in the Yokon and I got it! XD haha I LOVED it! It was an amazing time with you and I will try to visit you again in summer for a few days maby ^^
Than we can see if I can still split the wood, make fire and giggle so much that everyone is enoyed of it xD haha
You always say you are so grumpy but I think you are not that bad at all ^^ haha of course you had sometimes moments in witch you have been grumpy, but most of the times that had a reason. And compared to how much fun I had with you and how many nice times we had, these few grumpy moments are nothing :D and stop worriing so much about everything! You cant make everything perfect, nobody can^^ just stay such a wonderfull man you are and a lot of other workawayers will love there stay with you! Haha and always keep smiling^^

Thank you again Stephen for your home, your time and your kindness !! It was awesome :)

I wanna start off by saying thank you so much stephen for everything you did for me over my 5 week stay! Thank you for always going out of your way to make us feel comfortable, again and again you showed your kindness and generosity and i really appreciate that!! Staying with stephen will be a challenge, i was constantly being put outside my comfort zone but i loved every second. Stephen took me to so many beautiful places and spent so many hours driving us around and making sure we got to see anything and everything we wanted to see. Thank you for your patience with me whilst i tried to make it down all the mountains without falling also for putting up with my love of Christmas and me covering your house with paper snowflakes!! This was the best workaway i could have imagined, it was an adventure from start to finish and i can’t wait to return in the future (and hopefully see a moose this time!!!)
Missing you and Tyson already :)

Stephen...where shall I start? Perhaps I will begin with the word of THANK YOU. Thanks for your generosity, the extra mile you always gave no matter how tired you were. I appreciate every single moment as such and you know pretty well I am very good at noticing gestures as these ones :) This was certainly one of the most profound and life changing experiences for me. I spent 6 weeks with you and to be honest I didn't fully understood the Yukonian lifestyle before I arrived however I am leaving with a feeling of huge respect and admiration towards you and the life you have chosen. This isn't the easiest in the slightest. I take my hat off to you. You took me on a adventure and absolutely crazy rollecoster. I was challenged in so many ways, taken out of my comfort zone (especially when the cars failed), learnt so many skills (using chainsaw, chopping wood or removing engine) while dealing with harsh and extreme conditions and saw the most wonderful and mind-blowing places, scenery and animals even when the temperature dropped to -30. My skin got tougher, my appreciation for water and warmth grown even more and the strong belief that there are some wonderful people out there. Its been tough but incredible at the same time. If you want to challenge yourself, think outside of box, seeing the most stunning scenery then definitely get in touch with Stephen. This is going to be the most incredible experience ever. Its going to be tough but worth it!

Tyson is adorable too ❤️

I stayed with Stephen for one month and it has been an awesome and authentic northern experience that I highly recommend!

I was able to settle in easily and comfortably from day 1 thanks for Stephen’s kind hospitality. The house was warm and comfortable (basic yet sufficient). I enjoyed all the hiking and camping trips, thank you for making all the special trips to Haines, Alaska and tombstone! The last show at diamond tooth gerties was unforgettable as well! Thanks for Stephen, i gained a deeper understanding of the north and these memories are going to last a lifetime!

I stayed just under a month with Stephen and Tayson and wish, I could have stayed longer. Due to my way of traveling (bicycle) I had to keep going before the cold cold temperatures hit me. But I am trying to come back one day. Stephen made my arrival super easy and I was welcomed by a lovely dog. After getting the hang of things, I really appreciate everything Stephen does for his guests. It is less a work exchange, more a exchange of time, stories and adventures. Thank you so much for taking me to all these beautiful places, which I'd never seen on my bike. I had a wonderful time exploring, hiking, swimming, eating icecream, delving into Gold rush history and so much more. Stephen knows so so much and loves to answer your questions!! Make sure you ask when ever you want to know something! The time flew by but I am glad about all these memories. Stephen is the most generours, caring and kind-hearted person I've ever met. THANK YOU !

Read his profile carefully. It describes everything and more than you need to know! If you like to learn new things, don't mind a rustic lifestyle and want to have a truly unique experience - go for it!! It will change the way you think, act and see things.

The first thing I can say is thank you Stefen for this Yukon adventure!
I spend three weeks with Stefen and other travelers in Tagish lake. Yes, it was a great adventure and I recommend it! Just make sure you like to live into the wild :)
Stefen is a very generous person who love to share and show as much as he can. Your company and the daily cores (shopping, cooking, laundry, road trip preparation ..) are the exchange he is looking for. I also started to repair the canoe.
We visited lots of places around Whitehorse like Dawson city, Atlin, Carcross ... and hot springs too :)
Stefen knows a lot about the history of the area and secret places too!
(Unfortunately my English wasn't good enough to understand everything).
What I can say is go for it, you will enjoy it !

I stayed with Stephen for a whole month and I made a lot of great memories here! He made me feel welcome and always tried to accommodate us as best as possible. We did some amazing roadtrips, hikes and dips in several hot springs. The hikes can be exhausting but in the end they are very rewarding and you get to see the most amazing views. Also the visits to towns like Dawson and Skagway were amazing, we got to see some great live shows and learned a lot about the history of Yukon and the Gold Rush. During my stay I saw several bears, moose, elk, porcupines, and let's not forget gophers... Thank you Stephen and Tyson (and Sarah, Carla, Orla and Franzi ;)) for making my trip to the Yukon unforgettable!

I’ve spent more than a month in Stephen’s house in December/January.
Stephen is someone who really cares that his guests have a great time in Yukon. What can we ask better than someone who knows this territory like his pocket?
We did huge things, every weekend despite the cold weather.
During Stephen’s work days, you go to Whitehorse and you have his car for yourself. You can do whatever you want. Me and Maja went each time in the Canada games Center to do some sport class and take a shower. We also spent the afternoon at the librairy for the WiFi :)
If you are looking for a very wild place to learn how to light fire with flints, you’re not in the right place! But you can have a great experience to live with the bare necessities (but enough) in Stephen’s house.
Last but not least, if you don’t know Terminator saga, that’s the place to be ;)

Thanks Stephen for all you did for all of us to spend a great time. One of the greatest experience of my life thanks to you! And do a big kiss to Tyson!

I finally have the time to write an excellent feedback for five wonderful weeks with Stephen from February until the middle of march.
The Yukon has the most beautiful landscape that I've ever seen and I am so glad that you, Stephen, showed me the crazy pure wilderness. I will never forget the camping nights between the mountains, the fun we had with the sleds and the incredible hiking tours! I could write about so many more wonderful moments, the meeting with the animals, the northern lights, our conversations in the evening and so on... The Winter is cold, but after a few days the body gets used to it. - 15 degrees seemed like 10° after a while! It's a great experience to live without running water and electricity. I got used to melt some ice to drink water or to clean my teeth!
The priority for Stephen is that all his guests are happy. Even if he was tired from work he went for hikes with us, to because He knew that hiking was my favourite way to discover the landscape.
Á part of my heart is still in the pure wilderness in the Yukon and I will never forget the feeling of pure freedom. Thank you Stephen for these wonderful weeks, I Wish you the best and hope to see you again!

It was my first experience staying with Stephen and what a great one! I couldn't ask for more.
Just after I left I realized even more how much I enjoyed my stay with Stephen, Tyson and the other guests in the Yukon and how much I felt at home in his rustic cabin. It is a simple home with no running water, rarely electricity and heated by a wood stove. But honestly it is an awesome experience living off grid and it makes you realize that you don't need much for living. He lives in the most beautiful area of the Yukon (in my opinion) next to Tagish Lake surrounded by mountains and forest.
Stephen is super easygoing, does everything to make his guest happy and just enjoys to have company.
In his free time he took us on amazing trips and adventures and he could tell us so much about the gold rush, the wildlife, the first nations and the Yukon in general. Simply, he showed us so many beautiful spots in nature that sometimes only locals know.
We had quite a lot of spare time where we could start some projects or just hang out. He doesn't ask for much but you are responsible for grocery shopping and cooking. I enjoyed cooking for us or baking a cake and I had a lot of fun cutting fire wood. Moreover, I helped building a sauna to make it usable but it still needs some improvement and fixing ;).
I made loads of unforgettable just as unique memories during my stay with Stephen and I'm sure you will too if you gonna go visit him!

I am so grateful for Stephens generosity and kindness, and I hope to be back one day!
Thank you for everything Stephen!

Staying with Stephen was more than a good idea. It was a lifetime experience and I will never forget those two months.
I went to the Yukon during the winter so of course it was crazy cold. During two very cold periods we hit the -40 degrees. It was challenging to live in this cold but I (and my body) got used to it. In the end -10 felt like spring. Nothing that I've ever experienced was like the way how Stephen lives there. Everything's pretty simple at his place but in my opinion there's everything you need. You just have to get used to some things, like getting the water from a water well, boiling the water if you need it warm, going to an outhouse and not a water closet and not being able to charge your phone 24/7.
But it's not like living in the bush. It's still a residential area with neighbours, people use cars, they have electronic tools, cellphones and (sometimes) satellite TV.
Stephen himself is a relaxed and very kind person who tries to make everyone's stay as good as possible. He gives up his life for travellers like me and you, to show us the way people live in a remote place like the Yukon and he shows us the Yukon Territory itself. He will take you on road trips almost every weekend so that you get a good overview of the area around you and experience exciting things like seeing all kind of wildlife or tenting in the snow. I could continue explaining how it is to stay there but I think you should just figure it out yourself and get an own impression. Mine was huge.
Thank you for everything, Stephen!

I only spent two weeks at Stephens Place at the end of 2017, but these two weeks were an amazing experience that i will never forget! It was a really cool time (like literally) and i didn't think I would love it so much to split wood or wake up in the middle of the Night to fill up the woodstove, but I did! I loved every single bit of it! Having movie nights in a cozy place when it is -30°C outside, having frozen eyelashes while hiking, having a campfire and jumping into warmsprings, seeing such an amazing nightsky every night, going on walks with Tyson, waiting for the food to defrost when you come home after a long day, going snowshoeing, springing in hot springs after a long day, going for a stroll through whitehorse, joking around with the other two girls i spent my time with and so much more made my time wonderful and I appreciate it. This list is much longer and I am really thankful for that! Stephen is such an amazing person and cares a lot about his guests which is awesome to see. I wish him all the luck and more amazing guests who appreciate everything he is doing!
With the experience of the lowest temperature i ever experienced in my life (-42°C) and a lovely Frostbite on my ear I left the Yukon with the promise to myself that i would come back! Soon!
I had an amazing time, thank you Stephen!

I stayed with Stephen from late June to early August of 2017. Truth is, without Stephen, I would have been clueless as to how to navigate the North - a lot of experience function on locals' knowledge. I am thankful to Stephen for allowing me into his life, however briefly, and entertaining my love of hiking during my stay. Some of the nicest parts were really the mail runs during his work, experimenting cooking, and the misc tasks of auto work, firewood, etc. I was able to try my hand at new subtleties of life without feeling judged or needing to play into a persona. In the Yukon, I could finally breathe. It wasn't always easy, but it was exactly what I needed. The scenery is stellar on the off road trip you do, truly some of the most impressive sights in all of Canada. Whitehorse, where you will spend parts of your week, is a great city to explore with some damn good coffee and local events. If you are lucky to be with other guests, like I was, you will meet brilliant people. Stephen is complex soul with a penchant for kindness, and honestly does his best to make a stay comfortable. If I returned to the North now, I would feel comfortable navigating its whole - hitchhiking, finding work, planning multi-day hikes. Stephen is responsible for this - he will help you create the experience you are looking for if you help him likewise. I'm happy to have made this friendship. I recommend this Workaway for good-tempered, honest souls who understand the beauty of shared experience!

PS thank you for the foray into 70s music! I listen to the songs you've shown me to this day, with fondness.

Steve is an exceptional generous person, who did his best to let us feel good during our stay. Unfortunately, when I arrived I had the bad luck to meet a very bad group of hosts: quite immature, giggling girls who chatted among them and complitely ignoring the world around, making him more their personal driver then anything else, and blaming outside instead of pointing to themselves and trying to improve the atmosphere. The result was a heavy emotional stay, but cannot say anything bad about Steve: on the contrary, thank you a lot for your generosity and availability. I wonder why some people travel if they are not open to meet differences: of culture, of language, of age, of backgrounds, of nationality. It is said that travelling open the minds: that is not true. If you are a narrow minded, you will continue being like that, no matter how many countries you visit. Steve has the heart at the right places: the other guest did not. Sorry Steve for the experience! I really hope you will be luckier next time!

I stayed at Stephen for a couple weeks in Feb and Mar. I was totally misunderstanding that I was going to stay as worker. but I was surprised he treated us as his guest! he cared and asked us about what we want to do in this opportunity. My best wish was to see the northern lights. His location was great!! because it took only few minute away from the lake by walk where is the best spot to see it. I went to the lake many times at midnight with warm stuff. because it was - 30 degrees!! Finally I could watch the excellent northern lights! that was one of my best memory in my life. He liked to give us fun time, such as snow shoe at the mountain, canoe in the ice river, drove us to the hot spring and Skagway, watch a movie with ice cream and popcorn!, bon fire and smorkies under the beautiful stars and northern lights. I saw many wild animals on the road and enjoyed to stay with off grid and his wonderful partner Tyson! Thank you very much for host me!

His knowledge of the history and backgrounds of the many things you can discover in the Yukon is immense and he is happy to share all of it with you.
I saw so much of the wildlife there is to see. Just on a normal drive to work you are almost guaranteed to at least see one bear.
And Tyson is the lovliest dog you can find anywhere! He is so loving and adorable you will want to take him with you when you leave.
I am very thankful to have stayed with Stephen during my time in Canada and I would love to come back. Thank you for this experience.

What a lovely man this is! He opens up his life, his house and his knowledge for you. Together with the others hosts and Stephen you form a family for a couple of weeks. Three days a week Stephen works and me and the other guests did various different things, like hiking up mountains, go swimming, visit a museum etc. During the other days Stephen always had great ideas for trips. Something just something around the house like wood chopping (amazing!), cross country skiing and hiking in the mountains. But we also made bigger trips to Alaska, the hot springs and to Atlin. However, the trips wouldn't have been nearly as fun if it wasn't because of the amazing company. Everyone going to Stephen is willing to contribute to things that need to be done and a good atmosphere. And so is Stephen. He is in for crazy things and is very flexible and enthusiastic. He really puts his guests in the first place. He is a giver, not a taker. All in all, I can absolutely recommend this place. Work doesn't feel like working here.

Stephen is a very nice host who wants his guests feeling comfortable and well. He takes care and does everything to make you happy. I was longer there than expected because I liked it so much. I was at Stephens with 3 other girls, and it was a great time. Our main chores were helping in the household, cooking, cleaning, making firewood and other things which was fun and easily to do. Stephen showed us so many things and did a lot of trips with us. He knows so much about the area and shared his knowledge with us. I liked his place, it was cozy and it looked to me like a real cabin in the Yukon with no fluent water and outside toilet, such a good experience. And his amazing dog Tyson guided us during our hikes and took care of us. I had a lot of "1. time" - experiences: tenting in the snow with -20 degrees, watching Northern lights, snowshoe-hiking, cross country skiing, camping in general...it was an unforgettable adventure that I don't wanna miss. Thank you for these special memories, Stephen and Tyson :)

He is one of the nicest and generous people I have ever met. He gives you trust in humanity.
I have learned so much with him. He teaches me to drive in the snow like a yukonner (and he is really good at that),Mechanics stuff, how to use a chainsaw and split firewood, and he knows so much about the north and the gold rush history! He has driven so many km for me and I have discovered with him the most beautiful parts of the Yukon (Atlin, the Chilkoot trail, Skagway, The Chilkaat pss, Haines, Dawson City and Tombstone (The 8 wonder of the world for me) . Stephen also help me challenge myself with so many fun and crazy moments!

I don't think, you'll meet many people that are as passionate about their way of living as he is. When you're staying with him, he'll make sure that you've got a good time and visit everything that you want to. I would definitely recommend to stay with him and I hope to be able to return. Stephen has a calm and patient character. However, he loves to make you laugh, to lead political discussions and to share his knowledge about cars & the Yukon. He is passionate about his lifestyle and sharing it with his guests. As one of them, you can be sure that Stephen cares a lot about you. Therefore his major concern is you, having an adventurous stay in the Yukon. Generally he enjoys watching movies, having guests with crazy ideas, all kind of outdoor adventures and spending time with his lovely dog Tyson. I stayed one month at Stephen's house. Even if we had some issues with the cars (& sometimes the cold ;) ...). Stephen tried his best to deal with the situation. So we had a great time in Atlin (bonfire), Alaska (camping+taking a ride on a train), at the Takhini Hotsprings, in Carcross Dessert (Sledding), in Whitehorse ( NewYearsEve concert and firework) and in the wilderness (snowshoeing). Staying with Stephen is not about comfort, but about sharing his life and love in/for the wilderness. Thanks a lot!!!

If you’re looking for a great opportunity to explore the Yukon, with an amazing guide (who can explain lividly about the whole history), and you would also like to go back to basic and live ‘into the wild’ (making sure you’ve got enough firewood, get water, turn into a mechanic and learning new things) this is the place to be! Stephen says he’s a bit shy, but if you get to know him better.. he has a very nice sence of humour and a lot to tell.. Don’t hesitate when you’re close or planning to go to Canada/Yukon.. this is the place to be!

My stay… Arriving in the Yukon while the fall colors were still there, with miles and kilometers of only nice landscapes and seeing no-one. My stay @Stephen started with the last chance visits to Skagway (Alaska) & Dawson City. So I’ve got in the shoes of the gold-rush, became a can-can girl and really searched for gold with Stephen as my guide. He challenged me to drink the -bit strange, but tasty- sourtoe cocktail, we slept with -5 ⁰C in a tent on the Dome in Dawson & visited the Tombstone NP over ‘The Demster’… more holes than road.. but luckily no flat tires….
In the month I was here, we drove the most scenic routes and tried to spot as many deer, moose & black bears as possible (Stephen is a specialist on that!). But even porcupines & squirrels could make my day. We were so lucky that Stephen made it possible for us to go to Haines and add grizzly bears, caribous, otters, a coyote and bald eagles to the list.

We hiked the amazing Three Guardsman Satelite Mountain Trail to a melted glacier, definitely cold, frozen, snowy and beautiful. With the most amazing views, also on many other glaciers and the road (we came from) miles below us. And on our way back.. flashing the Highway and enjoying the rest of the Chilkat Pass & Kluane NP. Off course we went to Atlin for a campfire and challenging warm-spring dip and we always tried to spotNorthern Lights.. how amazing it is to finally understand what ‘dancing lights’ means..

But aside of all the amazing trips, there was also the way of life: going back to the essential, learn to cut threes, sharpen the chainsaws & split wood.. this were things I am so happy to have seen, done & experienced.

I’ll always remember my stay in the Yukon (and a little Alaska & BC), the unspoiled scenery, the hospitality & kindness of Stephen and other people I’ve met. Enjoying the first snow in the Yukon.. unfortunately was the sign to go home :-(
Thank you for an amazing time Stephen! I hope you’ll find a lot of love & happiness and many nice guests, who might open unopened doors for you.. if you accept the challenge ;-).
I hope I turn out to have been one of them and you’ll remember me when you enjoy your French Vanilla ;-)

You're looking for the best Canadian outdoor adventure you can get? Well this is it!
I had an amazing time in the Yukon I can't even write it all down, but the most important things to know are that Stephen is probably the loveliest person in Canada, a super enthusiastic and funny company and on top of it the best tour guide in the Yukon! His cute companion Tyson loves to learn new tricks, but watch out when you go for a canoe tour, he might jump out of it ;)
One of the things Stephen can teach you is how to live a simple wonderful life with lots of happy moments somewhere in the north of the most beautiful country.
It's not easy at all to pick a favourite out of all our adventures but I'd say the most memorable moments were the campingtrips where we had a bonfire and could watch the stars, milky way aaaand northern lights. Sometimes for hours. Thinking about the great time again just makes me wanna come back so badly. I hope I'll make it back one day!
Stehpen, thank you so much again for everything you did. I wish you and Tyson the best.
lots of love, Isabel

How do I explain my stay at Stephens place... It was just wonderful! We did so many trips (Chilkoot Trail only being one of them!!!) while we got to know the awesome landscape of the beautiful Yukon. Stephen always tries to give everyone the best time at his place: he explains, answers (my sometimes stupid :D) questions, gives advices, makes you laugh and opens up his home as if it was yours, too. So if you are looking for a great stay in the heart of the Yukon: this is it. :)

Sorry it took me that long to leave a feedback. I spent six weeks at Stephen's place and had a blast. I made new friends, learned how to use a chainsaw, chopped lots of wood and went on many awesome and unforgettable adventures. Camping in the middle of the wilderness, hiking mountain trails, exploring Dawson City, the Dempster Highway, Skagway, Atlin, learning about Yukons history, being crazy and sneaky and having the time of our lifes - we did it all. Thank you again for taking me all the way up to the Artic Circle!
I hope to come back some time and visit again

Dear Stephen,
Sorry for the very late Feedback...

I've been at Stephen's Place for 4 weeks in Februray 2016.
We did a lot of roadtrips, snow shoeing, warm springs challenge, tenting in the snow, cutting and chopping firewood...Stephen is always very caring and generous. If you talk to him about your interests he does everything possible to realize them.
He is one of the kind-hearted persons I've ever met.
I hope some day I will have the possibilty to visit him again in summer.

If you are looking for some adventure with nice company to discover the Yukon wilderness this is the place to be :)

I had a great time on all the road trips!!! I met a lot of other guests from Stephen, since I stayed in the Yukon for a long time. I spent a lot of weekends at his place during this stay.

I am sorry it took me so long to leave this review. I spent April and May last year at Stephen's place and it has definitely been a few of the best months of my life! We did so many amazing trips and overnight hikes, like a hike to the "Magic" bus, a trip to Juneau, Alsaka or Liard hot springs, and I think I will never forget them. Even when we were not travelling and Stephen had to work me and other workawayers could enjoy the amazing nature of the area where Stephen's house is situated. You can literally take a 3 min walk in the forest and there is a huge lake with mountains on the other side. Tyson is the cutest dog ever and was a great companion on some of our adventures. Work wasn't hard at all, I am glad we managed to finish the house floor. Thank You, Stephen, so much for your time, your hospitality and making sure I get vegetarian hotdogs!

Thank you for amazing four weeks in Yukon! You made me feel at home and always gave everything to make your guests happy. Maybe even too much ;)
With so many lovely people around even the Dempster is fun for a third time :)
I can not thank you enough for the wonderful chance to get to meet you and Tyson.
I cannot imagine a better way to get to see Yukon, than with you guys.
I hope you get the Van repaired!

Dear Stephen,
I had an unforgettable, amazing time. I want to say thank you. Thanks for all you've done for me. Just how you are. (Always concerned if your guests are fine, if they need something, if you can do anything for them.)
Your easy-going, open minded, honest personality is a gift that is
great appreciate. I really enjoyed your company, your funny stories,
and all the information about your country. Your knowledge of Alaska, Canada and the Yukon lore.
Thanks for sharing these moments and adventures with me. I will always remember the incredible hiking-trips, the snowshoeing, the campfires, the northern lights and the tenting in the snow.
The other Roadtrips were a big big extra on top.
For all the people out there, who loves the nature, the wildlife,

I throughly enjoyed my time spent with Stephen in the Yukon. Stephen encourages you to live on the wild side. In one month we snowshoed in the White Pass, hiked across Tagish Lake, took a dip in Atlin warm springs and Liard hot springs, road tripped to Alaska, played cards in his cosy home and much more. The help was very relaxed and Stephen gives you the freedom to do so at your own pace. Be prepared to chop lots of wood for warmth, I found this to be very empowering. If you're seeking a mixture of silence and adventure then Stephens home is the place for you.

Thanks for everything Stephen :-)

It's been a year since I had the chance to stay at Stephens place, but I still think of all the great memories I made there. Stephen is a very generous host, who took me on so many adventures. I loved living a little bit of the grid and experiencing a yukon winter with you! Thanks for having me as your guest! Be safe

My stay at Stephen's place lasted but a month (Nov-Dec) but thanks to Stephen's incredible generosity and determination to please his guests, 30 days gave us enough time to explore the most interesting parts of the Yukon territory. Whenever Stephen was off work, we went on roadtrips, camped outside (yes, this is also possible in winter!), held bonfires and I - being an avid hiker - even managed to drag Stephen along for a few hikes (although it is not his favorite thing to do)! The Yukon is beautiful and definitely worth a visit.
You should, however, be aware that life at Stephen's place is quite rustic: You have an outhouse, not a toilet; the house has no wifi and no running water, which means the days Stephen is at work is your chance to visit Whitehorse for a nice warm bath and unlimited wifi-access (if you so desire); the house is heated only by a wood stove, so wood-chopping will be part of daily life and you should be prepared to return home to a house in desperate need of heating if you have been away for a day or two. There is a certain charm to this type of living and if you are like me - you will definitely enjoy what it has to offer.

All in all, I am very grateful to Stephen for having provided me with the opportunity to experience Yukon in winter - which is definitely worth it!

I spent one month with Stephen and his lovely dog Tyson. He really cares about you and takes you to a lot of places. He also wants you to get involved in these unique experiences, so, he explains them to you like you were in the place and in the moment when they happened, this is not only stay and see places, this is a real history lesson in the legendary Yukon. I really learned about it staying with him, and I will always remember it. Than you Stephen!!

I spent nearly two months at Stephen's place in the Yukon and I had a wonderful time! Spending April and May in the North I had the opportunity to go snowshoeing in the Chilkat Pass and the White Pass, hike to the Magic Bus in Alaska and explore the amazing ice caves of the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska. I found friends for a lifetime in the other workawayers and fell in love with Stephen's cute dog. Stephen is very caring and enthusiastic, he'll always chose a roadtrip over working on his house, but somehow we still managed to complete the new floor! Otherwise the "work" (if you can even call it that) involved cooking, cleaning, chopping wood and moving a big pile of dirt for landscaping.
I really appreciate everything you have done for us, Stephen, and I am more than thankful for my amazing time in the Yukon, an experience I'm not likely to forget! I'm looking forward to coming back, whenever that may be!

I stayed with stephen during two months over this last summer and fell in love with Yukon. Fell in love with its' wilderness, people and the overwhelming feeling you have everytime you step outside. Stephen is someone who you can only like; he dedicates his time to make guests comfortable and happy - always with great care and enthusiastically explaining with the knowledge of the best tour-guide...everything! (He is like an encyclopedia with legs).
I am grateful and extremely lucky to have shared this experience with other amazing guests this summer, during which we were from backing to undergoing diverse hiking trips. Unluckily Stephen didn´t have his passaport by then but I hope next guest can also enjoy the amazing hikes in USA with this great man.

All the best, always,

Sandra

Although my stay has been in July, I always look back to it with a lot of gratitude. Stephen hosted me and another girl from Spain at the time and we explored Dawson City, the Dempster highway, the Alaska highway, several mountains and lakes with the canoe and warm springs together. We even went to a festival in Atlin, BC together and camped often. There was always a topic to talk about and in the end he taught me how to use the chainsaw after digging an outhouse hole. I was cooking and baking a lot, sometimes cleaning the car, running some errands or working around the house. I surely recommend staying with Stephen as this will be different from anything you expect - and you'll be surprised positively of what Yukon and Stephen with his dog have to offer!

I spent three weeks with Stephen and Tyson in Tagish. At the risk of repeating what has already been said, I can’t hardly imagine any nicer, funnier and more generous workaway host. Stephen made me travel the length and breadth of the Yukon and parts of Alaska and did his utmost to squeeze everything I wanted to see here within just three weeks (hot springs, coutless caribous and mooses, the northern lights, the subarctic tundra, Alaska, fortunately no bears…).
Thank you for teaching me so much about the Yukon, electricity, wildlife, Canadian customs and politics and so many more and for allowing me to experience your wonderful way of life.
Looking forward to coming back during one of the summers to come to discover Juneau and its glaciers and sneaking into the blue caves!

Hey ho to all the workawayers out there. I stayed nearly 3 months at Stephens place and had the time of my life :-) . We travelled all around Yukon, had relaxing day in Tagish infront of the woodstove, always planning a new adventure. Workwise there is not alot t do, some cooking, some cleaning or chopping wood. If you like to see Yukon, and look for a great host to tell you the stories of this place, show you around and have a great time, thisnis the place to go. Thaaaanks alot again Stephen for you generosity (and sry for this super late feedback), cheers matti.

I haven't expect that this time with Stephen will turn out as such a great adventure. And it turns out as a wonderful adventure.
Stephen is one of those persons who is really carrying about his guests. And their detention is very important for him.
We went to the Atlin Warm Springs which was a challenge for us European girls, but we did it.
And our Trip to Dawson City was crazy and we also visit Chicken and Tok in Alaska.
And Post Sign Forest in Watson Lake was the most memorable visit in my stay in Canada.
I don't know the list is long and it's just a spirit of the Yukon i quess, that make the place so unique.
I miss that so much.
Will return back some day...Yukon is in my heart.
Thank you Stephen for this.
Your guest Viktoria
